About Melbourne Cricket Ground

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is one of the most famous sporting venues on earth and the spiritual home of Australian cricket. Opened in 1853, the colossal arena is best known for hosting the traditional Boxing Day Test every December.

The MCG staged the very first Test match in 1877 and the first one-day international in 1971, giving it a unique place in cricket history. Its enormous capacity has made it the stage for World Cup finals in both the 50-over and T20 formats.

With its towering stands and roaring crowds, a full house at the ‘G is one of the great spectacles in world sport, equally at home hosting cricket in summer and Australian Rules football in winter.
